Clarice Brostad

Clarice "Mea" Brostad, 92 of Webster died on Friday, July 22, 2016 at Bethesda Home in Webster. Her funeral will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday July 27, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in Webster, Pastor Ken Ballard will officiate. Burial will be in the Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Clarice “Mea” Elenor Nelson was born on June 15, 1924 to Knute and Matilda (Pederson) Nelson on the farm in Kosciusko Township, Day County, South Dakota. The farm was homesteaded by her grandparents. Clarice was baptized and confirmed at Zoar Lutheran Church. She attended Kosciusko #176 country school and graduated from the 8th grade. At that time she helped her mother and father on the farm. She moved to Sisseton and worked for a dentist. When he relocated to Minnesota she moved to Webster and helped her cousin with her two daughters. She also worked at Knapps Café and was a nurse aide at Peabody Hospital. On June 1, 1947 she married Jean Arthur Brostad. They resided in Webster for the remainder of their lives. Three Children were born to this union LeAnne, Sally, and Sharon. In her later years she babysat for many different children in their home. Jean passed away in May 1993. After his death she continued to live in the family home in Webster. In 2011, she moved to Sun Dial Manor in Bristol and later to Bethesda Home in Webster in October 2013. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Webster. She enjoyed camping, knitting and crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Clarice is survived by her daughter, Sally (Gary) Hubsch of Webster, SD; Grandchildren, Matthew (Teri) Hubsch, Samuel (Jami) Hubsch and Jessica (Keith) Kretzschmar of Webster, SD and John Griffin of Aberdeen, SD; Great grandchildren, Michael, Brandon, Evan Kretzschmar, Joe, Isaac, Emily and Nathan Hubsch and Jacob, Ella and Lynnea Hubsch. She is also survived by two brothers Donald (Donna) and James (Angie) Nelson both of Minneapolis, MN, one sister Lorraine Engebretson of Salt Lake City, UT, and one brother-in-law David (Betty) Brostad of Round Rock, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two daughters, LeAnn and Sharon Brostad, three brothers Oscar, Buddy, and Bob Nelson, and one sister Agnes Hanson.
