Dorothy Olson, 90 of Bristol and formerly of Webster died on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol.

Dorothy was born in 1927 in Gwinner, North Dakota to Ray and Agnes Westra. One of 9 children, Dorothy spent her life surrounded by her family as well as the family of her late husband, Woodrow. Dorothy was married for 64 years to the love of her life, Woodrow Olson, who preceded her in death in 2013.

Dorothy was known for her Blue Ribbon canning and baking. You could always count on Dorothy for a homemade sweet and we all remember her cream cheese mints and her Swedish Tea Rings! Over the many years she served this community, she was Crowned Pumpkin Queen and Vinegar Queen and was named Legionette of The Year. She was also named Volunteer of the Year by the Bethesda Nursing Home, and she spent countless hours making life better for those around her.

Dorothy spent her life serving her church and her community. She was involved in Women's Missionary Society and she taught Sunday School for many years. She spent years caring for little ones at the church and she babysat for many working mothers in both Aberdeen and Webster, SD. You always knew you would see her teaching children and sharing her love of Jesus with them. Her Teddy Bear Picnics and Tea Parties were legendary. She spent many years caring for the elderly in their own homes and serving meals at the retirement home in Webster. There was always a seat at her table and a place in her home for friends or strangers. Dorothy spent more than 25 years serving the American Legion Auxiliary. Dorothy and Woodrow were very patriotic. Dorothy had the heart of a true servant of God.

Dorothy touched so many lives. She will be dearly and greatly missed by all who knew her.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her loving husband Woodrow Olson, her brothers Jack Westra and Jerry Westra, and her sister Thelma

She is survived by her loving children Lynda (David) Bruner of Bel Air, MD, Everett (Sandy) Olson, of Marysville, WA, Ramona (John) Woodman of Aberdeen, SD, Darlene Maxwell of Mound, MN, Carolyn Olson of Lawrence, KS, Twyla Olson of Webster, SD, and David (Janell) Olson of International Falls, MN, her three grandchildren and their spouses and seven great grandchildren, her siblings. Helen Warwick, John Westra, Grace Landmark, Margie Roney, James Westra, and her late husband’s loving family Alice Seline, Violet Wyum, Shirley Maher, and Donald Olson, and dozens of nieces and nephews.
