LaVonne Bury

LaVonne Bury 83 of Webster died on Monday, October 05, 2015 at USD Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Her funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, October 8, 2015 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster, Rev. William Olsen will officiate. Burial will be at Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday 5-7 P.M. and prior to services at the church. LaVonne Joy Stadsklev was born Sept. 20, 1932 in Pierpont, SD to Edward and Olga (Brekke) Stadsklev. She was baptized at Bethany Lutheran Church near Bristol and later was confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol. She grew up with her three sisters on a farm near Bristol, attended rural school and graduated from Bristol High School in 1950. Upon graduation, she attended Aberdeen Business School before beginning a job at Security Bank in Webster. On Feb. 25, 1956, LaVonne married Marvin Bury at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol, SD. The couple lived in Holmquist, SD and Aberdeen, SD before making their home in Webster in 1960. LaVonne was a founding employee of Dakotah, Inc., where she worked until her retirement in 1988, at which time she began working in the lunchroom at Webster High School. LaVonne was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, serving on the Church Council, as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, and active in WELCA and quilting circle. She also was an active community member, participating in Jaycettes, RSVP, Needs Anonymous and Legion Auxiliary, serving as a Girl Scout leader and visiting shut-ins. She enjoyed family activities, ballroom dancing and square dancing and was an avid walker. LaVonne and Marvin took several bus trips around the U.S. and especially enjoyed attending the Host Fest in Minot, ND for twelve years, dancing to her favorite performers, Charlie Pride and Myron Floren. LaVonne passed away on Monday, October 5, 2015 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 83 years and 15 days. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband of 59 years, Marvin, her daughters Karen (Roy) Peters of Canistota and Kristi (Kim) Lindquist of Sioux Falls; her son Randy (Sonia) Bury of Sioux Falls; her grandchildren Nathan Peters, Lindsey (Miguel) Lopez, Kelsey Lindquist, Kory Lindquist, Jacob Bury and Lucas Bury; her sisters Darlene Cox of Albuquerque, NM, Ellen Hoines of Elkhorn, NE and Bev (Duane) Sveum of Omaha, NE; and several nieces and nephews. LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers-in-law.
