Valeria Kulesa

Grenville – Valeria Kulesa 79 of rural Grenville passed away Sunday September 4, 2016 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M. Friday at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Grenville, burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday 5-7 P.M. closing with a Rosary Service. Valeria was born to Roman and Loretta Etl Michlitsch on June 27, 1937 in Sisseton, South Dakota. She attended school in Marshall County until the eighth grade after which she helped care for her brother and sister following the death of their mother. On May 14, 1957 she married Philip Joe Kulesa at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eden, South Dakota. To this union five children were born. The family lived and farmed in the Grenville area where Valeria helped on the dairy and grain farm. She worked at Charron’s Steakhouse, at Pickerel Lake for a time. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grenville and served as Eucharistic Minister as well as being active with many other church activities. Valeria’s greatest joy was having family and friends around because she loved to bake and cook. She also enjoyed gardening, cake decorating, traveling, was a community quilter and a red hat society member. Grateful for having shared her life are her five children: Gregory (LeeAnne) Kulesa, Watertown, SD; Cindy (Dennis) Burrell, Aberdeen, SD; Susan (Mike) McCoy, Lyons, SD; Warren (Shelley) Kulesa, Crystal, MN and Thomas (Renee) Kulesa, Aberdeen, SD. Twelve Grandchildren: Christopher (Cathy) Bartelt, Watertown, SD; Aaryn (John) Nolte, Richfield, MN; Kristen (Brooks) Henderson, Rogers, MN; Evan (Krystle) Kulesa, Choteau, MT; Anthony (Kelsey) Kulesa, Kansas City, KS; Cassandra Kulesa (Matt Keller), Raleigh, NC; Traci Kulesa, Duluth, MN; Nicholas and D’Angelo McCoy, Lyons, SD; Elizabeth Kulesa, Crystal, MN; Haven and Peyton Kulesa, Watertown, SD, and five great-grandchildren: William and Hannah Bartelt, Elise Henderson, David Nolte and Baby Kulesa (due in September). She is also survived by two siblings: Virgil (Carol) Michlitsch, Inver Grove Heights, MN; Audrey Johnson, Plymouth, MN; Two brothers-in-law: Louis (Cindy) Kulesa, Webster, SD; Frank Kulesa, Jr., Grenville, SD and two sisters-in-law: JoAnn Deutsch, Roslyn, SD and Lenora Kulesa, Bismarck, ND, and many nieces and nephews. Valeria was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one grandchild, Reilly McCoy.
