WEBSTER: Alan Cavanaugh 65, of Brandon and formerly of Webster died on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at his home. His funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel in Webster, Rev. Keith Nelson will officiate. Burial with military rites by Herbert McKennett Post 40 American Legion will be at Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Wednesday 4-7 P.M. and one hour prior to services on Thursday. Fiksdalfuneral.com. Alan Berdell Cavanaugh was born on Tuesday, June 27, 1944 to Alvin and Flora (Herr) Cavanaugh at Bristol Hospital at Bristol, South Dakota. He attended Elder Grove country school west of Webster where the family lived at the time. On May 27, 1965 he enlisted in the South Dakota National Guard and served until his honorable discharge in 1971. He worked a variety of jobs in the Webster area including Dr. Caley Veterinary Office, Batie Implement, Langager Implement and South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks for 18 years. In 1987 he moved to Sioux Falls. On November 23, 1996 he married Susan Hauge. The couple lived in Sioux Falls and then in June 1997 moved to Brandon. He worked as a painter, City Directory and Good Samaritan Center for three years. He also worked at Residence Inn as maintenance supervisor for twelve and one half years retiring in May 2009. Alan was a member of Celebration United Methodist Church in Brandon where he helped build the new church, served on the church board and helped change signage at the church every week. He loved being with his grandchildren and going to all their fun activities they were involved with. He also enjoyed keeping up his yard perfect, going hunting and loved watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. His dogs, Heidi Louise, Tipper Duane and Matt Dylan were his friends and always wanted to go where he went. Alan passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at his home in Brandon at the age of 65 years, 11 months and 7 days. Survivors include his wife, Susan of Brandon; one daughter, Melissa (Travis) Duncan and granddaughters, Sydney and Taylor all of Sioux Falls, SD; a step-daughter, Sheri Hebb and step-granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Kassidy all of Brandon, SD; two sisters, Jeanette Lutz and Joyce (Joseph) Ewalt both of Webster, SD; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters.
