Amelia MurschelAmelia Murschel, 99, of Watertown and formerly of Webster passed away Tuesday November 10, 2020 with her daughter Trudy at her side at Jenkins Living Center. Private Mass Of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday November 14, 2020 at Christ The King Catholic Church in Webster. It will be livestreamed on Fiksdal Funeral Service Facebook Page and later viewable on our website at fiksdalfuneral.com. Public walk through visitation will be Friday 5-7 P.M. at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster. Amelia was born to Joseph M. and Mary (Lewno) Block on Thursday, April 7, 1921 on the family farm east of Grenville, SD. She was educated at St. Joseph's Catholic grade and high schools in Grenville. Amelia met Clifford Murschel at a dance. They corresponded during his service in WWII and were married on June 18, 1947 in Grenville. They farmed and milked cows in the Webster area. Their first home had a 1/2-mile-long driveway. In winter they had to leave the car out by the highway and take milk cans out to the car using horses. Dancing was a favorite activity and again involved first getting out to the car. They also worked in Webster. In addition, she sewed for her daughters from babyhood to school clothes. Amelia began working at the Day County Treasurer's Office in 1960. After the Court House burned, she helped salvage and remove records from the damaged building. In 1962 she began working at the USDA-ASCS Office until 1986. She provided wonderful care to Cliff for 14 years after he had a brain aneurysm. Amelia was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and Altar Society, VFW Auxiliary, and Research Club. She then worked at Larsen Realty until 2001 when she moved to Aberdeen. She joined St. Mary's Catholic Church and participated in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel at Avera St. Luke’s. Cliff and Amelia worked hard, but also found time for fun. At first when friends visited, Cliff would go out with the horses to get them from the road. They enjoyed visitors at their Blue Dog Lake cabin. And always, there was dancing. Amelia was known for her cooking and baking - especially Angel Food cake. She had a great sense of humor. She was very independent. She lived in her own apartment, striving to keep climbing the stairs, saying it was her “therapy", until she was 96. Amelia lived her deep faith every day. Amelia is survived by daughters Julie Meidinger of Aberdeen and Trudy (Gary) Fossum of Lily. Grandchildren: Lisa (Jason) Stenzel, Waseca, MN, and children Emma, Ethan, Myles and Henry; Sommer (Jon) Hunke, Bismarck, ND; Lucas (Amber) Steiner, Summerset, and children Jackson, Ian and Amelia. Step-grandchildren: Tammy Meidinger, Plankinton; Mark (Twyla) Fossum, Watertown, and children Brett, Jarika, and Marcus. Brother Carl (Doris) Block, Waubay. Many nieces and nephews. Amelia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clifford (8/15/1989). Son-in-law Bill Meidinger.
