Barb Sikkink

Barb Sikkink, 64 of Bristol died on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at her home in Bristol. Her funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol, Rev. Janet Miller officiating. Burial will be at Bergen Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday 5-7 P.M. followed by a 7 P.M. Prayer Service. Barbara Kay Anderson was born on Saturday, July 2, 1949 to Arnold and Lorene (Roth) Anderson at Webster, South Dakota. The family made their home near Bristol. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol. Barb attended school in Bristol and graduated from Bristol High School in 1967. After high school she attended Northern State College in Aberdeen. She married Michael Sikkink on February 3, 1968. After their marriage the couple moved to Duluth, Minnesota and then in 1970 returned to a farm in Egeland Township, Day County, South Dakota south of Waubay. To this union three children were born, Michelle, Marc and Molly. In 1981 she moved to Bristol. She worked for Dacotah, Inc., Knudsen Drug, Pereboom Café and Webster’s Dakota Diner. “Caring for and serving people was more fun than work.” She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church where she was active in W.E.L.C.A. She enjoyed baking, crocheting, gardening going to the casino and always had a pot of coffee on for friends. Being a grandma was the joy of her life. Making play dough and cookies, watching movies, playing in the backyard, attending sports activities and spending time together with them made her a proud grandma. Survivors include her children, Michelle Schmit of Castlewood, SD, Marc (Carrie) Sikkink of Fergus Falls, MN and Molly (Sean) Heeney of Tea, SD; nine grandchildren, April, Baily, Cooper, Spencer, Morgan, Brooklyn, Kyla Jo, Jordan and Carter; one great grandson, Ryker; a special niece and great niece, Cathy Konteh and Amie Konteh; one sister, Lynne (Cliff) Nygaard of Bristol, SD; two brothers, Gary (Linda) Anderson and Bruce (Bonnie) Anderson both of Bristol, SD; sisters-in-laws, Mary (Raymond) Folger and Sally Ray; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Arnold and Lorene, one sister, Carol Bury and a special friend, Don Miotke.

Our sympathy. I have known Barb since high school and will miss her also at the Dakota Diner. We were there this week and it just didn't seem right that she wasn't there... Blessings to you all, Marilyn (nee Sandve) and Danny Mattson

To the family of Barb Sikkink, I am very sorry for the loss of Barbara. We all yearn for the day when we'll see our loved ones again, and that's exactly what God promises through his son Jesus at John 5:28,29. Until then, God promises to give us peace of mind to cope with our grief (Philipians 4:7). Please visit free of charge, jw.org for more comforting thoughts from the Bible. Sincerely , Ladd Novak

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I met Barb through my sister, Peggy Ninke, and she became part of our "family". What a great person. I will miss seeing her when I come to Webster. Barb Stupero

Michelle, Molly & Marc and families- I'm so sorry about your mom! Barbie as I lovingly called her was a very special friend and I will miss her very much. So glad to have shared so many laughs with her over the years. My prayers are with you all during this sad time. Love-Amber (Jensen) Grayson

I'm so sorry Barb had to go through all she did! We enjoyed our visits with her at Dakota Diner whenever we came back to Webster. She was always so cheerful, full of spirit and just plain fun. I'm just sad even tho I know she's now well and whole. Our sympathies to her family.

Many moons ago I went with my Mom over for coffee at Barb's house. We ended up playing cards (not something we did often), but Barb and I were on a team. I screwed up a move and I cried "OH no, Fluffy!" And from that day on - she has been known to me as Fluffy. Even in the end as my kids and husband prayed for her - she was Fluffy. Rest in Peace, beautiful lady. My life has been and will continue to be better because of knowing you.

Was shocked to hear of Barbs passing. Whenever my husband and I would have coffee or a meal in the Webster Dakota Diner she would always stand and talk with us sharing what was going on in her life and us with her. We would grumble how the world and times had changed but always ended up laughing saying "things could be worse". She was one special lady who had strong love for her family. You will be missed.......
