Barbara Jacobson, 73 of Webster died on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at Dougherty Hospice in Sioux Falls. Her funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, September 29, 2011 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Webster, Rev. Daniel Ostercamp will officiate. Burial will be in the Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday 5-7 P.M. and prior to services on Thursday. Active casket bearers will be Reid Valsvig, Chris Rieb, Blake Jacobson, Josh Bartos, John Spears and Bobby Rithmiller. Honorary casket bearers will be Drew Valsvig, Brian Rieb, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Barbara Helen Johnson was born on Wednesday, June 15, 1938 to Almon and Jenny (Holm) Johnson at Waubay, South Dakota. She was baptized at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Waubay. In 1943 the family moved to Webster where they attended American Lutheran Church where she was confirmed. She attended Webster public school and graduated from Webster High School in 1956. On August 12, 1956 she was united in marriage to Gerald Jerry Jacobson at American Lutheran Church in Webster. After living in several states, they returned to Webster in April 1971. She worked as a banker all of her career. In Webster she worked at Security Bank and then at F M Bank (Great Western Bank), retiring as Branch Manager in 2002. For many years, until the fall of 1990 when it closed, she was often seen at the couples ice cream shop, popularly known as JDs. She truly enjoyed being at JDs, socializing with friends, family and others that stopped through the area. She was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Webster where she was active in W.E.L.C.A. and Ladies Aide. Barb was well known and respected throughout the community where she was proud to be a member of the Red Hat Society, Webster Kiwanis Club and Progressive Reader groups. She was an avid walker and especially enjoyed spending time with family. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up and participate in their sports and many other activities. Barb passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 73 years, 3 months and 10 days. Survivors include her husband, Jerry; two sons, Scott Jacobson and Tim (Robin) Jacobson both of Webster, SD; three daughters, Susan (Mark) Rieb of Watertown, SD, Kari (Doug) Valsvig of Webster, SD and Ann (Scott) Hakes of Florida; four brothers, Duane Sonny (Carol) Johnson and Donald Buddy Johnson both of Webster, SD, Almon Windy (Barb) Johnson of Watertown, SD and Robert Bobby (Eileen) Johnson of Chicago, IL; 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Kenneth and a sister, Margaret Delaney.
