WAUBAY- Bernice Holscher, 77 of Waubay died on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Milbank Area Hospital in Milbank. Funeral services will be at 2:30 P.M. Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay, Burial will be in the Lakewood Cemetery, Waubay. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Friday 5-8 P.M. and one hour prior to services on Saturday. Bernice Joy Richardt was born on March 31, 1930 to Elmer and Hilma (Swanson) Richardt near Ortley, South Dakota. She was confirmed as an adult in 1949 at Zion Lutheran Church in Waubay, South Dakota. She attended school in Waubay and graduated from high school in 1947. After high school she furthered her education at Northern State in Aberdeen where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school in Wheatland Township for three years. On May 22, 1949 she married LuVern Holscher at Zion Lutheran Parsonage. After their marriage the couple made their home on a farm east of Waubay for 30 years until moving to their new house on a farm a mile west of their first farm. In 1982, the couple owned and operated the B&L Eatery in Waubay. They continued to run the restaurant for ten years. Mr. Holscher passed away January 14, 1985. In November of 1991 Bernice moved into Waubay, where she resided until December 5, 2007 when she moved to The Golden Living Nursing Home in Milbank, South Dakota. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she held offices in the Ladies Aid, she also was a member of the Lakeside Learners Extension Club. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, playing cards, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bernice passed away Wednesday February 13, 2008 at Milbank, South Dakota at the age of 77 years, 10 months, and 13 days. She is survived by 5 sons: Neil (Lynn) Holscher of Waubay, SD; Loren (Karen) Holscher of Twin Brooks, SD; Lynn Holscher of Park Place Milbank; Keith (Pam) Holscher of Bismark, ND; Kerry (Brenda) Holscher of Waubay, SD, one daughter: Shirleen Dahl of Marion, KY, two brothers: Verlin (Phyllis) Richardt of Rapid City, SD and Darwin Richardt of Aberdeen, SD, two sisters: Doreen Johnson of Watertown, SD and Marlyn Zubke of Adrian, MI, 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson, and two great-grandchildren.
