Betty Guderian, 86 of Milbank and formerly of Ortley died on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Golden Living Center in Milbank. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay, Rev. Jeffrey Kalb will officiate. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Waubay. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday 5-7 P.M. and prior to services at the church on Saturday. Betty May Rider was born on Monday, October 26, 1925 to Mark and Estella (Kempter) Rider in Waubay, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay. She attended Waubay school and graduated as Salutatorian of her graduating class of Waubay High School in 1944. She taught school at Drywood School south of Sisseton in 1945. In 1948 she graduated from Bartron School of Nursing in Watertown in 1948 where she became a Registered Nurse. Betty was united in marriage to her high school “sweetheart,” Lyle Guderian on June 12, 1949 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay. After their marriage the couple made their home in Ortley where they raised their three daughters. After her children were in school she worked for several years as a Registered Nurse at the hospital in Webster until her retirement in 1987. In 2007 the couple moved to Milbank and she entered Golden Living Center in Milbank in July 2012. Betty was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay. She enjoyed baking, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Milbank, South Dakota at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 28 days. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband of 63 years, Lyle of Milbank; three daughters, Linda (Lyle) Randen of Gillette, WY, Nancy (Robert) Rumpza of Waubay, SD and Debra Larson ( special friend, Kevin Pierce) of Watertown, SD;one sister, Jean Johnson of Seattle, WA; eight grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and ten step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Ralph and (her twin) Paul, three sisters, Margaret Rider, Lucille Rider and Catherine Rudebusch.
