WEBSTER- Carolyn Neal 84 of Webster died on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at Lake Area Hospital in Webster. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, December 30, 2006 at Christ The King Catholic Church in Webster, Burial will be at Prairie Hill Cemetery, Bradley. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Friday 1-4 P.M. then continuing at the Church 6-8 P.M. with a 7 P.M. Scriptural Prayer Service. Carolyn Agnes Sass was born on Sunday, September 17, 1922 to Leo and Martha (Gollnick) Sass at Webster, South Dakota. The family lived and she grew up on a farm near Lily. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Otto’s Catholic Church in Webster. She attended country school near her home and then attended Mt. Marty High School in Yankton. She received her teaching certificate from Notre Dame Junior College in Mitchell in 1941 and then taught in a rural school in Day County for one year. On November 21, 1942 she married Dale Neal at Webster, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home on the Neal family farm north of Bradley. In September 1947 they moved to a farm in Blaine Township, Clark County east of Bradley. In 1956 and 1957 the couple lived in Coon Rapids, Minnesota and then returned to their farm. Carolyn worked for a short time at the Tri-R Station at the corner of SD Highways 20 & 25. Mr. Neal passed away on June 22, 1986. After his death she remained on the farm until moving to Webster in 1998. She recently entered Bethesda Home in Webster. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Webster, the Catholic Daughters, the church choir and the Altar Society. She also was a member of Bradley American Legion Auxiliary and Senior Citizens. She was a reporting correspondent for the Watertown Public Opinion, Reporter and Farmer and the Clark Courier. Carolyn’s mother died when she was a young girl and her father taught her to play cords on the piano so when his band played at dances she could play with them. Because of that she learned her love of the piano and organ. She loved bowling, playing cards, golf, gardening, reading newspapers and doing crossword puzzles traveling, dancing and following the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. She was an artist and loved to draw and paint. Christmas was her favorite time of year. She loved caring for and playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Greatest of all her loves where her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Carolyn passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 84 years, 3 months and 10 days. Left to mourn her passing are three sons, Wayne Neal of Deephaven, MN, Kevin (& Nancy) Neal of Bradley, SD and Greg (& Katie Reike) Neal of Clark, SD; two daughters, Judith (& Walter) Van Gilder of Watertown, SD and Lorianne Neal of Algona, IA; a step-brother, Kenneth Sass of Webster, SD; a sister-in-law, Betty O’Conner of Spearfish, SD; twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and stepmother Angela Sass.
