Clarence Davidson

Clarence Davidson, 95 of Watertown and formerly of Milbank and Waubay died on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Watertown. His funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel in Webster, Rev. Janet Miller will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday 2-4 P.M. and one hour prior to services on Saturday. Clarence Reuben Davidson was born on Friday, July 16, 1915 to Albert and Alma (Amundson) Davidson on the family farm in Lynn Township, Day County, South Dakota northwest of Holmquist. He attended country school near his home and then helped his parents on the family farm. In 1938 the family moved to Ortley where he worked at the family gas station. During World War II he was employed at a defense plant in Bremerton, Washington for several years. On March 27, 1949 he was united in marriage to Violet Gramberg at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Waubay. After their marriage the couple made their home and farmed the Gramberg family farm south of Ortley. In 1954 they moved to Milbank where he operated a gas station for ten years, worked at the granite quarry for ten years and worked with the Green Thumb Program for ten years. In 1987 he retired and they moved to Waubay and in 2002 the couple moved to Watertown. He entered Bethesda Home in Webster in 2004 and then in 2007 entered the Golden Living Center in Watertown. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Waubay. He loved music and played with the Scandinavians dance band. He was proud to be a Norwegian. Clarence passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Watertown, South Dakota at the age of 95 years, 10 months and 15 days. Survivors include his wife, Violet of Watertown; two sisters, Prudence Orton and Arlene Hovland both of Webster, SD; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Albin, Scotty and Lester and one sister, Dorothy Dorsett.
