BRISTOL- Coleen Grimes 74, of Bristol died on Friday, October 30, 2009 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol. Her funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, November 5, 2009 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol, Rev. Janet Miller will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at Bristol Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Wednesday 4-8 P.M. with a 7 P.M. prayer service. fiksdalfuneral.com. Coleen Lydia Schimmel was born on Thursday, January 24, 1935 to Francis and Violet (Herr) Schimmel on the family farm in Butler Township, Day County, South Dakota near Butler. She was baptized and confirmed at Butler Lutheran Church. She attended country school near her home and also attended Bristol High School. On April 13, 1952 she married R. V. “Ike” Grimes at Webster, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home and farmed in the Crandall hills until 1969 when they moved to Bristol. Her passion in life was cooking. She worked in the kitchen at Sun Dial Manor and several restaurants in Bristol, Andover and Webster. And also, as a Green Thumb, at Bristol High School. Coleen was an active member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol. She enjoyed attending high school basketball games, gardening and tending to her flowers. She also loved her special dog, Joker, playing cards and spending time with her family. Coleen passed away on Friday, October 30, 2009 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol at the age of 74 years, 9 months and 6 days. Survivors include her husband, R. V. “Ike” Grimes of Bristol; her eight children, Cheryl Finstad (special friend, Greg Wolf) of Aberdeen, SD, Norma (Don) Shanholts of Groton, SD, Barbara (Don) Bawek & Lynn (Jenny) Grimes of Conde, SD, Janet (Benji) McPartland of Bradley, SD, Merry Grimes & Kari (Chad) Casey of Aberdeen, SD and Mark Grimes of Conde, SD; one sister, Carolyn (Arden) Becker of Freeman, SD; eighteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, a infant daughter, a daughter, one brother and an infant brother.
