Crystal was born January 24, 1943, in Bottineau, ND, to Arthur and Minnie (Skarphol) Larson and was raised on a farm north of Bottineau. She completed her education at Bottineau High School in Bottineau, ND. Crystal married Allan R. Nelson on May 5, 1962, in Bottineau. They lived in the Bottineau area for 32 years and then moved to Minot, ND. After loving him for 36 years, Allan went home to be with the Lord on July 13, 1998. At that time, Crystal moved to Grafton, ND, and later to Casselton, ND. She married Richard E. Grorud on September 10, 2005, in Fargo, ND and lived at Pickerel Lake near Grenville, SD, for the past four years. Crystal was born again in Christ as a young child and her greatest desire was to reflect Christ in her life. This impacted the lives of those around her, including each of her six children, who credit her with influencing their own decisions to follow Christ. She dedicated her life to being a godly wife, mother, and grandmother with a quiet, servant heart. Crystal is remembered for willingly playing with her grandchildren and often waiting to eat until she had served everyone else. She was willing to take time for others and genuinely cared for people. She became a life mentor to many who knew and loved her. Crystal loved Dick with all her heart and considered herself blessed to have the past four years with him. He and his family gave her even more blessings as she loved them as her own.
