WATERTOWN- Dale Miller, 88 of Watertown and formally of Ortley and Webster died on Monday, April 30, 2007 at Prairie Lakes Care Center in Watertown. His funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 3, 2007 at Ortley Free Lutheran Church in Ortley, Rev. Michael Peterson will officiate. Burial will be in the Lakewood Cemetery, Waubay. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Wednesday 4-8 P.M. and prior to services on Thursday. Dale Clayton Miller was born on Sunday, December 15, 1918 to Clarence and Gladys (Richardson) Miller on the family farm in Ortley Township, Roberts County, South Dakota near Ortley. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Ortley (now Ortley Free Lutheran). He attended country school in Alto Township and then graduated from Waubay High School. After high school he began farming with his parents. On March 3, 1942 he married Evelyn Dorsett at Minneapolis, Minnesota. After their marriage the couple made their home and farmed near Hurricane Lake and then in 1946 moved to a farm in Ortley Township where he farmed for many years. In 1979 he retired and they moved to Webster and in 1993 they moved to Blue Dog Lake. In 1998, because of high water, they moved their home to Webster. Mrs. Miller passed away in May 2000. After her death he continued to live in Webster until January 2003 when he moved to Stoneybrook Suites in Watertown. He entered Prairie Lakes Care Center in November 2005. He was a member of Ortley Free Lutheran Church where he served as Treasurer for many years. He was a member of Sons of Norway, Ducks Unlimited and served on the Lake Region Electric Board of Directors. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, traveling, visiting with friends and dancing. He loved spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved farming and raising cattle and even after his retirement spent time on the family farm. Dale passed away on Monday, April 30, 2007 at Watertown, South Dakota at the age of 88 years, 4 months and 15 days. Survivors include one son, Gary (Caroll) Miller of Summit, South Dakota; two grandsons, Michael (Janet) Miller and Mark (Melanie) Miller; and five great grandchildren, Angela, Suzanne, Gregory, Matthew and Caleb. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son, Gale, a granddaughter, Michelle and one sister, Veona.
