WEBSTER- Delmar Opitz 78 of Webster died on Monday, March 26, 2007 at Bethesda Home in Webster. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, March 30, 2007 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Webster. Burial will be at St. Otto’s Cemetery, Webster. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Thursday 2-4 P.M. then continuing at the church until 8:00 P.M. with a 7:00 Scriptural Prayer Service. Delmar LaVerne Opitz was born on Saturday, March 9, 1929 to Hubert and Isabelle (Janisch) Opitz at Britton, South Dakota. The family made their home near Eden where he grew up. He was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eden. He attended country school and then graduated from Sisseton High School. He worked at various jobs in the area, Chicago and Minneapolis before returning back to the area. On June 20, 1950 he married Sibylla Keintz at Eden, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home on the Roy Miller farm near Pickerel Lake where they raised and sold Registered Horned and Polled Herefords and Saler cattle. In 1976 they moved to his parent’s home near Eden where he continued farming and was a Seed Corn Dealer for Novartis, Stauffer, Mustang and Northrup King. He also drove school bus at Roslyn for Harlow Bus Service. In 1997 they moved to Webster to continue his Seed Corn business and enjoy semi-retirement. He entered Bethesda Home in Webster in 2006. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eden and then Christ The King Catholic Church in Webster. He was a member of the American Polled and Horned Hereford Association, and the American Salers Association. He served on the Eden Elevator Board and Eden Industrial Development Corporation. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Forresters, the Knighs of Columbus and the Eden Lion Club. Delmar passed away on Monday, March 26, 2007 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 78 years and 17 days. Survivors include his wife of Webster; one son, Harvey ( Melanie) Opitz of Eden, SD; four daughters, Pamela (Larry) Phillips of Coon Rapids, MN, Evelyn Christensen of Webster, SD, Cheryl (Randy) Majeske and Barbara (Rick) Stugelmayer both of Aberdeen, SD; two sisters, Arlene (Don) Quarve of St. Cloud, MN and Patty (David) Waletich of Milbank, SD; 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and twin granddaughters.
