WEBSTER- Dorothy Hanson 86, of Webster, died Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the Bethesda Home in Webster. Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at American Lutheran Church Webster, Rev. Jan FitzGibbon officiating. Burial will be in the Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Monday at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster and prior to services tuesday. Fiksdalfuneral.com. Dorothy Ruth Madsen was born on Wednesday, September 6, 1922 to Charles and Ruth (Knipfel) Madsen at Wilmot, South Dakota. She attended grade school in Roslyn. She was employed in various places in Roslyn and Minneapolis before moving back to Roslyn. She married Henry L. Hanson on July 8, 1944 at Sisseton, South Dakota. The couple farmed northwest of Webster in Webster township until retiring. During their time on the farm, she worked at the hospital and nursing home. In 1974 they moved into Webster and remained there until moving into Eureka in 1983. The couple returned to Webster in 1986. Mr. Hanson died in November 1994. Dorothy remained in Webster and entered the Bethesda Home in September 2005. Dorothy was a member of American Lutheran Church. She loved to do quilting at home and she volunteered her quilting skills at church quilting bees. She enjoyed cooking , card playing, and made excellent Norwegian pastries-her specialty to all the family members. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were very important to her. Dorothy passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 86 years, 9 months, and 14 days. Survivors include three sons, Dr. Richard (Beatrice) Hanson of Eureka, South Dakota, Dennis (Sue) Hanson of Pierre, South Dakota, and Lowell Hanson of Webster, South Dakota, one brother, Robert ( Caroline) Madsen of Watertown, South Dakota, one sister, Marion Bunting of Minneapolis, Minnesota, 11 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband on November 11, 1994, and two brothers, Donald and Walter.
