GRENVILLE – Edith Unise, 90 of Grenville, SD and formerly of Doran, MN died on Tuesday October 28, 2008 at a Roslyn nursing home. Memorial services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday October 31, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church in Doran, MN, Rev. Wendell Kelm officiating. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Doran. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service (fiksdalfuneral.com) Thursday 6-8 P.M. with a 7 P.M. prayer service conducted by Rev. John Hisel. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the following: American Cancer Society 4904 S Technopolis Drive Sioux Falls, SD 57106 Watertown Hospice 401 9th Ave NW Watertown, SD 57201 Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home of Roslyn PO Box 195 Roslyn, SD 57261 Edith Helen Pasch was born on February 9, 1918 to Frank and Dora (Kranhold) Pasch on the family farm near Doran, Minnesota. She was named after President Woodrow Wilson’s wives, Edith being his first wife and Helen his second wife. She was baptized and confirmed at First Presbyterian Church in Doran. She attended First Consolidated School of Doran where she participated on the girls basketball team and boys baseball team, until her junior year when the high school grades were transferred to Breckenridge, Minnesota. This ended her high school education as her parents could not afford to send her. After her education she married August Medenwaldt on August 18, 1936 in South Dakota. After their marriage he couple made their home in Doran and to this union two children were born. Edith worked as a cook for many years at Vada’s Steakhouse in Breckenridge and North Dakota School of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota. In April of 1970 she married Larry Unise in Webster, South Dakota. The couple resided in Doran where they owned and operated five different taverns over the years. In the late sixties, they moved to Grenville, South Dakota. Mr. Unise passed away in 1991. Edith continued to live in Grenville until just recently when she moved to Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn. She enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting, completing word finds, playing bingo and cards. Edith passed away Tuesday October 28, 2008 at Roslyn, South Dakota at the age of 90 years, 8 months, and 19 days. Survivors include: one son, Ron Medenwaldt of Sioux Falls, SD; one daughter, Velma J. Vlastnik of Grenville, SD; one sister Fern Leinen of Breckenridge, MN; four grandchildren, Dr. Vikki J. Vlastnik of Hockessen, DE, Roz (James) Keimig of Guymon, OK, Lisa (Heath) Clemans of Guymon, OK, Ron (Wanda) Medenwaldt Jr. of Towkawa, OK ; and eight great-grandchildren, Zane, Kati, Kaeden, Colton, Landon, Westin, Kelsea, and Khurston. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Larry, son-in-law; Jerry Vlastnik; four brothers, Clarence, Erwin, Melvin, and Lloyd Pasch; two sisters, Anna Weirtzema and Fredda Larson.
