Edward Hinkelman

WATERTOWN- Edward Hinkelman, 89 of Watertown and formerly of Waubay died on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown. His funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday, September 8, 2008 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Watertown, Rev. Iver Possehl officiating. Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery, Waubay. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service (fiksdalfuneral.com) in Webster on Sunday 4-7 P.M. and at the church beginning at 10:00 A.M. on Monday. Relatives are asked to meet at the church by 1:30 P.M. for a family prayer service. Edward Gottfried Hinkelman was born on Friday, May 9, 1919 to Edward and Frieda (Holzerland) Hinkelman on the family homestead south of Waubay in Central Point Township, Day County, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay. He attended country school near his home. After he received his education he farmed with his mother on the family farm. On June 6, 1945 he married Marvel Tesch at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay. After their marriage the couple made their home on the Hinkelman family homestead. He farmed, worked for Federal Crop Insurance, A.S.C.S. and sold Pioneer Seed Corn. In 1993 the couple moved to Watertown. Mrs. Hinkelman passed away in September 2004. He moved in with his son, Armin, in June 2006 and entered Jenkins Living Center in Watertown in April 2008. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay until he moved to Watertown, at which time, he became a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. He was a member of Watertown Senior Citizens. He enjoyed playing cards and loved seeing his grandchildren. Edward passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at Watertown, South Dakota at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 26 days. Survivors include two sons, Armin (Candace) Hinkelman of Watertown, SD and Curt (Sherri) Hinkelman of Atlanta, GA; a daughter-in-law, Marian Hinkelman of Cedarburg, WI; one sister, Mabel Zubke of Waubay, SD; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Hinkelman; eight grandchildren, Scott Hinkelman, Heather House, Travis Hinkelman, Jared Hinkelman, Briana Hinkelman, Justin Hinkelman, Joshua Hinkelman and Ashley Hinkelman; and seven great grandchildren, Jacob, Emma and Olivia House, Gabrielle Hicks, Owen Hinkelman, Alaina Hinkelman and Owen Stevens-Werthman. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, Darrel, two sisters, Olga and Anna, and five brothers, Herbert, Martin, George, Helmit and Walter who died in infancy.
