Emma Guderian, 102 of Bristol and formerly of Waubay died on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay, Rev. Jeffrey Kalb officiating. Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery, Waubay. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the Church. Emma Almira Zubke was born on Friday, May 5, 1911 to Herman and Ida (Bundrock) Zubke on the family farm northwest of Waubay, South Dakota. She was the 8th child in a family of 13 children. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay. Emma attended school through the eighth grade and then remained at home to help out her family. On June 2, 1937 she was united in marriage to Virgil Guderian at Waubay. The couple spent all their married life in Waubay and owned and operated Guderian’s Resort at Enemy Swim Lake for several years. Virgil passed away in 1977. After his death she continued to live in Waubay until June 2006 when she moved to Aberdeen to be closer to her daughter. She entered Sun Dial Manor in June 2007 where she has resided since. Emma was a life-long member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was active in choir, Ladies Aide and enjoyed teaching Sunday School. She was also proud to be a life-long member of the Waubay American Legion Auxiliary. Emma passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Bristol, South Dakota at the age of 102 years and 17 days. Celebrating her life through memory are her two children, Barbara (Harlan) Wickham of Aberdeen, SD and Barton (Pat) Guderian of Northfield, MN; three grandchildren, Lori (John) Brown of Zimmerman, MN, Susan Stadel of Gilbert, AZ and Beth Kendall of Minneapolis, MN; and five great grandchildren, Austin, Samantha, Gracie and Cole Stadel and Justin Brown. Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, one grandson, one great grandson, seven brothers and five sisters. Beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend, you will be in our hearts forever. Emma leaves a legacy of love to all who knew her. Peace be with you, mom, we all loved you dearly.
