WEBSTER- Frances “Fannie” Wormke, 87 of Gillette, WY and formally of Webster died on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at Pioneer Manor in Gillette, WY. Her funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. Frances Ruth Zumm was born on Sunday, November 2, 1919 to Charles and Marie (Mann) Zumm in Groton, South Dakota. She was educated in country schools in Day County and lived on the family farm near Pierpont. On December 8, 1942 she married Elmer C. Wormke on the Zumm family farm near Pierpont. He was serving with the Army Air Corps in England. While he served in World War II, she lived with her parents on their farm. In March of 1944, Ronald Allan Wormke was born. After Elmer returned to the states, they farmed near Langford and later near Pierpont. In 1956 the family moved to Webster. Fannie worked at Woolworth Department Store, Anthony’s Department Store and Felbaum’s Hardware Store. She and Elmer also worked as custodians at Day County Bank for many years. Elmer passed away in 1981, leaving a great void in the family’s life. After his death she continued to live and work in Webster, and she retired at the age of 78. She prided herself on the fact that she had “served” nearly every person in the county and their kids and grandkids. Fannie was an active member of the American Lutheran Church in Webster where she belonged to Circle and Ladies Aide. She also was an active community member in many volunteer ways. She loved going to coffee and out to eat with her friends. She loved her family, especially her son, Ron and his wife, Donna and her grandchildren, Shawn and Lisa. She loved her flowers and loved watching them grow, as long as those pesky squirrels stayed out of them. She also collected coin glasses and was proud of her collection. She and Elmer often worked two or even three jobs to make ends meet and provide gifts for her family. Fannie passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at Gillette, Wyoming at the age of 87 years, 2 months and 9 days. She is survived by her son, Ron (& Donna) Wormke of Firestone, CO; her grandson, Shawn (& Mandy) Wormke of Longmont, CO; her granddaughter, Lisa Wormke of Seattle, WA; two great grandchildren, Sarah and Braden Wormke of Longmont, CO; three sisters, Gladys Jordanger of Bristol, SD, Elenora “Ellie” Anderson of Webster, SD and Dora Mae Huggett of Sioux Falls, SD; and one brother, Earl (& LaVonne) Zumm of Fox Lake, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Viola, and five brothers, Arnold, Dan, Harold, Rudy and Karl.
