Gene PaulsonBRISTOL- Gene Paulson 72 of Bristol died on Friday, October 23, 2009 at Avera St. Lukes Hospital in Aberdeen. His funeral will be at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel in Webster, Marion Grimes will officiate. Burial will be at St. Ansgar Cemetery near Lily. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Tuesday 5-7 P.M. and one hour prior to services on Wednesday. fiksdalfuneral.com. Gene Justin Paulson was born on Saturday, October 9, 1937 to Justin and Faye (Foley) Paulson at St. Paul, Minnesota. He was baptized in St. Paul and later confirmed at Lily Lutheran Church. When he was six years old the family moved to the family homestead in Troy Township, Day County, South Dakota west of Lily. He grew up there attended country school near his home and also attended Lily High School. On January 17, 1955 he married Janice Hagen. To this union three children were born, David, Dan and Donna. He worked for the county and also farmed with his father, eventually taking over the family farm. On October 30, 1980 he married Gloria McCarlson Nash at Webster, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home and continued to live on the Paulson family farm. In 1995 they moved to Bristol. One of his pastimes was working with horses, which he dearly loved. He also attended many auctions, buying and collecting antiques. While his children were growing up he also liked hunting, trapping and snowmobiling. Gene passed away on Friday, October 23, 2009 at Aberdeen, South Dakota at the age of 72 years and 14 days. Survivors include his wife, Gloria of Bristol; two sons, David (DeAnna) Paulson of Rapid City, SD and Dan (Vicki) Paulson of Elk River, MN; one daughter, Donna (James) Moore of Greensboro, NC; a step-son, Dan (Lana) Nash of Waubay, SD; two step-daughters, Renae (Jim) Dale of Florence, SD and Dawn Nash (Adie Rumpza) of Webster, SD; eighteen grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Karen.
