Hazel Lorensberg

Hazel Lorensberg, 99 of Roslyn died on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Sanford Hospital in Webster. Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday, September 16, 2011 at Fron Lutheran Church in Roslyn. Janet Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday 4-7 P.M. and prior to services on Friday. Hazel Emelia Christina Johnson was born on March 16, 1912 to Soloman and Mary (Dahlquist) Johnson on the Johnson family farm east of Langford, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at Highlanda Lutheran Church near Langford. She attended Monticello #4 country grade school near her home. After she received her education, Hazel worked for local families helping with housework, cooking, and baking. On May 29, 1929 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Carl Lorensberg at Ortonville, Minnesota. To this union seven children were born. The family made their home northwest of Roslyn, South Dakota. Together the couple farmed and milked cows. Hazel was a dedicated mother and farmwife. Carl passed away on December 8, 1978 and at that time Hazel moved to the Roslyn Apartments. In March of 2011, she moved into Strand Kjorsvig Assisted Living in Roslyn where she resided until her passing. Hazel was a member of Fron Lutheran Church where she was active in Ladies Aid, Circle and made many quilts for church fundraisers. She was also a member of the Roslyn Senior Citizen Club. Hazel was an avid fan of playing cards, especially whist. She enjoyed nothing more than sitting down with family for a cup of coffee and playing a good game of whist. She thoroughly enjoyed embroidering, to which she created numerous, beautiful pillow cases and dish towels. She often would spend time chatting on the telephone checking in on everyone on a daily basis. Hazel was famous for her Scandinavian baked goodies. Everyone looked forward to the holidays to enjoy all of Grandmas delicious treats. She will always be remembered for her quick wit and love of life. She was and extremely proud mm, grandma, great grandma, and great-great grandma. She cherished the many five generations that began with her and Carl. Hazel passed away at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 99 years, 5 months, and 27 days. She will be forever in our hearts and sadly missed by: two sons; Chuck (Polly) Lorensberg and Gene (Jackie) Lorensberg both of Windfall, IN, three daughters; Marjorie Dolly (Marvin) Dahl of Walla Walla, WA, Arlette Jensen of Roslyn, SD, and Yvonne Vonnie Fitzpatrick of Spokane, WA, 15 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 28 great-great grandchildren, and a few more on the way, two nephews and one niece. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters; Baby Yvonne and Leona Deutsch, two infant grandsons, one sister Ellen Lorensberg, one brother Elmer Johnson, two sons-in-law; Donald Jensen and Tom Fitzpatrick.
