Helen Walton, 90 of Aberdeen and formerly of Webster died on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen. Her funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Webster, Rev. John Hisel will officiate. Burial will be in the Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday 5-7 P.M. and prior to services at the church. Helen Joyce McCormick was born on Tuesday, October 20, 1921 to Frederick P. and Genevieve (Baudoin) McCormick at Columbia, South Dakota. As an infant the family moved to Bath, South Dakota. She graduated from Bath High School in 1939. She attended Northern State College in Aberdeen where she received her two year teaching certificate. Helen taught at Yale and St. Lawrence, South Dakota before moving to Webster in 1944. She was united in marriage to James Walton on December 6, 1947 at Montevideo, Minnesota. After their marriage the couple made their home in Webster. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1964 from Northern State College. She continued to teach in Webster until her retirement in 1986, having taught for 37 years. James passed away in May 1996. After his death she continued to live in Webster. In 2002 she moved to Aberdeen, residing in Davis Court Apartments, Nano Nagle Village and in December 2010 entered Mother Joseph Manor. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Webster, the Progressive Reading Club, Webster Library Board, Webster Centennial Awards Committee, Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and the American Legion Auxiliary. Helen passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Aberdeen, South Dakota at the age of 90 years, 7 months and 25 days. Survivors include one son, James (Karen) Walton of Rapid City, SD; three grandsons, Mark (Misty) Walton of Oral, SD, Shaun Walton of Kingman, AZ and Jarrod Walton of Gilbert, AZ; four great grandchildren, Derrik, Zach, Jadyn and Samantha Walton; a very special niece, Diane McCormick of Aberdeen, SD, and three nephews, Lonnie McCormick, Michael McCormick and David McCormick. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Lyle and Kenneth McCormick, and Kenneth’s wife, Darlene.
