Irven Schmit

Irven Schmit, 81 of Webster died Thursday January 24, 2013 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday January 29, 2012 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Webster. Burial will be in St. Otto’s Catholic Cemetery near Webster. Visitation will be Monday 2 – 4 P.M. at Fiksdal Funeral Service and continue at the church from 6 – 8 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. wake service. Irven Schmit was born on Sunday August 2, 1931 to Anton and Marcella (Meyer) Schmit on the family farm near Andover, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed into the catholic faith. He attended York Township country grade school near the family home between Butler and Lily, South Dakota. After his education he stayed home to help farm with his family. He entered the United States Army where he was on duty in the Korean War. While in the military, Irven received his GED. After his honorable discharge he returned to the farm. In 1971 he moved to Denver, Colorado. He worked for a wholesale parts warehouse and was employed at this job for nearly twenty years. In 1996 he moved to Webster, South Dakota where he resided until this past December when he moved to Sun Dial Manor in Bristol, South Dakota. Irven was a former member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lily and a current member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Webster. He was also a member was the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, watching baseball, and especially visiting with family and friends. Irven passed away Thursday January 24, 2013 at Bristol, South Dakota at the age of 81 years, five months, and 22 days. He is survived by three brothers: Bernard (Paqui) Schmit of Orlando, FL, Leo (Carol) Schmit of Butler, SD, and Larry (Lu) Schmit of Denver, CO, one sister Lillian (Dennis) Denholm of Ipswich, SD, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Lauretta Schoenbeck.
