WEBSTER- James Kading, 53 of Webster died on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown. His funeral will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at United Methodist Church in Webster. Burial with Military rites will be in the Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Tuesday 4-8 P.M. with a Masonic Service at 7 P.M. James Allen Kading was born on Thursday, July 16, 1953 to Dr. Robert E. and Olive (Cowen) Kading at the Peabody Memorial Hospital in Webster, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Webster. He attended elementary school and graduated from Webster High School in 1972. After high school he worked at Jack & Jill Grocery store in Webster and also in a store in Fargo, North Dakota for a short time. In November 1974 he entered the U. S. Navy and served stateside, being stationed in California where he was a medical corpsman. On July 19, 1975 he married Loretta Hoff at the United Methodist Church in Webster. After he was honorably discharged from the service in November 1978 the couple returned to Webster where he purchased Wagner’s Variety Store. Later he built a new store building across the street and operated the store as a Ben Franklin Store and later as V&S Variety. He sold out the store in the late 1980’s and began Adjusting Services an independent insurance adjusting business and did adjusting for several insurance companies. He was operating the business at the time of his death. Also, Jim was an Emergency Medical Technician and worked for Christensen Ambulance Service for many years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Webster where he sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School and served on the Church Board. He was a mason and a member of Coteau Lodge 54 A.F. & A.M. where he had served as Worshipful Master two times and was currently Secretary, he was a member of Yelduz Shrine and Lake Region Shrine Club. He belonged to the Webster Kiwanis Club and Webster Chamber of Commerce. He was a Past Commander of Herbert McKennett Post 40 American Legion, served on the Day County Hospital Board, was a Boy Scout Leader and an Eagle Scout himself. He served on the Webster Centennial Board where he was Chairman of the Parade Committee. Jim was a part of the Webster/Dewangen Friendship Cities (Webster’s sister city in Germany). Jim passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at Watertown, South Dakota following a short illness at the age of 53 years, 8 months and 6 days. Survivors include one son, Rob Kading of Webster, SD; a daughter, Jamie (Thad) Grimsrud of Brookings, SD; his parents, Dr. Robert and Olive Kading of Webster, SD; three brothers, Steve (Debra) Kading of San Antonio, TX, Lynn (Sandye) Kading and Douglas (Jane) Kading both of Rapid City, SD; and two grandchildren, Treven and Riley. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
