ROSLYN – Joyce Lardy 85 of Roslyn died on Saturday April 25, 2009 at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown. Her funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Roslyn Lutheran Church in Roslyn, Janet Johnson will officiate. Burial follow at Fron Lutheran Cemetery near Roslyn. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service (fiksdalfuneral.com) on Tuesday 5-7 P.M. and prior to services on Wednesday. Joyce Lorraine Bolland was born on Wednesday, November 28, 1923 to Esten and Tina (Holland) Bolland at Pierpont, South Dakota. She was raised in Independence Township, Day County and attended District 205 rural school. She then graduated as Salutatorian of the class of 1941 at Pierpont High School. She attended Northern State College in Aberdeen for a year, earned her teaching certificate and taught her home school for four years. Before her marriage she spent her summers working in Sioux Falls. On October 17, 1953 she married Eugene Lardy at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, South Dakota. After their marriage they resided in Oscar Glosimodt’s residence in Roslyn for six years and then they purchased five acres from Hazel Schad in 1958, on the east edge of Roslyn, and built their family home which they moved into in February 1959. Joyce attended summer school at Northern State College regularly until she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1966. She taught at Pierpont, Waubay, Webster and Roslyn Schools retiring in 1990 with thirty one years at Roslyn and forty two years total teaching time. Mr. Lardy passed away in September 2008. She was a confirmed member of Roslyn Lutheran Church and a Life-Member of the South Dakota Federation of Garden Clubs. She helped organize the Roslyn Garden Club in 1959 and started the first Junior Garden Club in the State. She always promoted beauty in the community by planning trees and flowers in the public school, church, park and rest home. She enjoyed gardening, landscaping, floral arranging and time with her family. She planted a tree in their Arboretum for each of her children and grandchildren. Joyce passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Watertown, South Dakota at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 27 days. Survivors include three sons, Kirk (Janet) Lardy of Bristol, SD, Todd Lardy and Gil (Julie) Lardy both of Watertown, SD, two sisters, Edna Hauge of Aberdeen, SD and Grace (John) Ward of Frankfort, IN; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister and two brothers.
