WEBSTER- Margaret Hallstrom, 85 of Webster died on Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at Bethesda Home in Webster. Her funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 9, 2010 at American Lutheran Church in Webster, Rev. Jan FitzGibbon officiating. Burial will be in Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Friday 5-7 P.M. with a 6:30 P.M. prayer service. Visitation will resume one hour prior to services on Saturday. Fiksdalfuneral.com. Margaret Marie Hempel was born on Monday, July 13, 1925 to Paul and Erma (Trowbridge) Hempel at Webster, South Dakota. She was baptized in the German Lutheran Church and later confirmed at American Lutheran Church in Webster. She attended Webster Public Schools and graduated from high school in 1943. She worked at Halbkat Drug Store before her marriage. On April 4, 1944 she was united in marriage to Charles Hallstrom at Tallahassee, Florida while her husband was in the service. After their marriage the couple lived where he was stationed and then returned to Webster. They lived in town briefly and then moved to the Hallstrom family farm. She worked at Community Oil Company in Webster for fifteen years as well as a homemaker, raising her family. She entered Bethesda Home in Webster in September 2006. She was an active member of American Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and confirmation, Bible study, was financial secretary, served on the music and worship committee and was a delegate to the church-wide synod assembly. She also was active in the church women including W.E.L.C.A., Circle and other committees. She belonged to the V.F.W. and American Legion Auxilaries and was a Gold Star Mother. She was an avid reader and was self-educated in theology and many other subjects. She enjoyed square dancing, coin and stamp collecting, golf, jigsaw puzzles and crosswords. She was a consummate mother and was talented in many aspects of diverse artistic and intellectual endeavors. Margaret passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 85 years, 2 months and 22 days. Survivors include her husband, Charles of Webster; two sons, Robert (Kathy) Hallstrom of Apollo, PA and Rev. Tom (Marlene) Hallstrom of Wichita, KS; four daughters, Beth (Doug) Bohlen of Albuquerque, NM, Cathy (Ryan) Barnhardt of Milbank, SD, Lora (Craig) Haugaard of Aberdeeen, SD Christy (Greg) Wallum of Jacksonville, FL; three brothers, Dick (Margaret) Hempel of Lennox, SD, Bob Hempel of Rapid City, SD David (Mary) Hempel of Webster, SD; fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one sister, one brother, three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
