Mary Ann Lavonne Rithmiller was born on February 22, 1933, to Lyle and Martha (Peavler) Robb in Webster, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at Butler Lutheran Church in Butler, South Dakota. The family lived near Bristol where she attended school until the 8th grade. The family then moved to Ellendale, North Dakota. After her education Mary Ann stayed home to help take care of her 8 siblings.

She was united in marriage to Gideon “Pete” Rithmiller on March 28, 1949, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Minneapolis where she worked at Cub Foods for 21 years until her retirement in 1990. After both Pete and Mary Ann retired the couple moved to the family farm near Webster where her and Pete enjoyed taking care of their “hobby farm”. They moved to Andover in 1996 due to the farm flooding, and then moved to Webster a short time later. Gideon “Pete” passed away in 2001. Mary Ann moved to Heritage Village in 2017 and then to Bethesda Home in November 2021.

Mary Ann loved cooking and baking for her family. She enjoyed going shopping but above all she cherished spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Mary Ann passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at the age of 88 years, 10 months, and 17 days.

She will be forever loved and missed by her two daughters-in-law, Liz Rithmiller of Aberdeen, SD, and Rita Rithmiller of Cedar, MN; nine grandchildren, Shawn (Dawn) Rithmiller of Webster, SD, Shane (Angela) Rithmiller of Minot, ND, Peter (Josie) Rithmiller of Williston, ND, Bobby (Heidi) Rithmiller of Aberdeen, SD, Elizabeth “Lula” (Jeremy) Merchant of Aberdeen, SD, Melanie Nelson of Elk River, MN, Jeremy (Candace) Ebeling of Maple Grove, MN, Billy (Sheryl) Rithmiller of Forest Lake, MN, and Nova (Brad) Dolney of Oaks, ND, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, three children, Pete, Bill, and Lois Swan, eight siblings, and one great-granddaughter.
