Maynard SolsaaWEBSTER- Maynard Solsaa, 80 of Webster died on Tuesday, September 09, 2008 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. His funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 13, 2008 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster, Rev. LeRoy Stadem officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service (fiksdalfuneral.com) on Friday 5-7 P.M. and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church. Maynard Clayton Solsaa was born on Wednesday, September 28, 1927 to Edwin and Annie (Ihlen) Solsaa on a farm in Wheatland Township, Day County, South Dakota near Lily. He was baptized at St. Pauli Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster. The family moved to Webster when he was a small child, he attended Webster School and graduated from Webster High School in 1946. He began working for the Webster Journal which was owned by Will Wells. He entered the U.S. Marines and served at the end of World War II. Then he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Korea. He received the Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal and Bronze Service Stars. After his discharge in 1952 he returned to Webster and worked for Reporter and Farmer newspaper. On June 3, 1955 he married Violet Heemeyer at Bemis Christian Reformed Church in Bemis, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home in Webster. Maynard worked for Reporter and Farmer until his retirement in 2005. He had worked for 53 years for the newspapers. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster where he was head usher for many years. He also belonged to Herbert McKennett Post 40 American Legion in Webster. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends and watching television. Maynard passed away on Tuesday, September 09, 2008 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 10 days. Survivors include his wife, Violet of Webster; a son, Arvin (Barbara) Solsaa of Menomonie, WI; a daughter, Gloria (Matt) Bechel of Red Wing, MN; a brother, Arland (Vange) Solsaa of Aberdeen, SD; a sister, Eunice Fosheim of Webster, SD; and three granddaughters, Natalia, Anastasia and Anne. He was preceded in death by his parents.
