GRENVILLE – Myrene Hanson 80 of rural Grenville passed away Wednesday February 28, 2018 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday March 9, 2018 at Roslyn Lutheran Church in Roslyn. Inurnment will be in the Roslyn Cemetery. Memorial visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Thursday 5-7 P.M. closing with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. fiksdalfuneral.com. Myrene Ann Moen was born on April 30, 1937 to Harold and Norah (Arneson) Moen at Webster, South Dakota. She was baptized in Webster and confirmed at Saron Lutheran Church near Roslyn, South Dakota. She attended Nutley #166 country school through the eighth grade and continued on to Roslyn High School graduating in 1955. After her education, she took a job at Milbank Mutual Insurance Company in Milbank, South Dakota. On September 15, 1957, she was united in marriage to Alden Hanson at Roslyn Lutheran Church in Roslyn. The couple made their home northeast of Grenville, South Dakota where they raised their family. The couple was engaged in grain and cattle farming. Myrene was always involved in the farming operation as well as taking care of anyone who was helping at the farm. Myrene and Alden enjoyed wintering in Arizona for the past 15 years. They enjoyed attending extra curricular activities for their kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. Myrene was known as the “Chief Cook and Baker”! She was known for her delicious, homemade chocolate chip cookies, doughnuts, lefse, and kumla. She had a passion for sewing and would often joke, “Don’t patch patches!” Myrene was a gentle, faithful, and kind woman that gave a piece of her heart to all who had the honor of knowing her. She loved the Lord and her family. She cherished the time she spent with each and every one of them. Myrene was a member of Saron Lutheran Church and Roslyn Lutheran Church where she served as President on the church council and taught Sunday School. She currently was a member at Tabor Lutheran Church in Webster where she was a member of WMF (Women’s Missionary Federation). She was active in various groups over the years including Roslyn WELCA, Roslyn-Grenville-Eden Community Quilters, Study Club, and the Roslyn Legion Auxiliary. Myrene served on numerous boards over the years including the Webster Hospital Board of Directors, the Webster Hospital Foundation Board and currently serving on Strand Kjorsvig Living Center Board of Directors. Myrene passed away Wednesday February 28, 2018 at a hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 80 years, 9 months, and 29 days. She will be forever loved and greatly missed by her husband of sixty years Alden Hanson of Grenville, SD, two sons, Mark (Kim) Hanson of Grenville, SD and Wayne (Michelle) Hanson of Creston, IA, one daughter Julie (Scott) Weeldreyer of Sioux Falls, SD, one daughter-in-law Nita (Lonnie) Aadland of Eden, SD, and one brother Richard (Barb) Moen of Roslyn, SD. She will also be missed by 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother Harriet, two sons; Baby Hanson and Steven Hanson, one daughter-in-law Sheryl Hanson, and one brother, Curtis Moen. .
