Norbert Francis Stromseth was born on April 6, 1925 to Elmer and Mary (Etl) Stromseth at the Stromseth family homestead northwest of Roslyn, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eden, South Dakota. He attended country grade school. After his education, Norbert being the oldest of ten children, he started farming with his family at a very young age. On May 25, 1949, he was united in marriage to Helen Block at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Grenville, South Dakota. The couple then moved to Webster, where Norbert was employed by Firestone Tire Company and Erdman Electric. Norbert had a longing desire to return to farming. He was very passionate about farming and he and Helen decided to buy a farm southeast of Eden. It was at this farm that they made their home and raised their children. The family worked hard building the farm to what it is today. Norbert was engaged in grain and cattle farming as well as raising laying hens and selling their eggs to local grocers. Norbert was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he was a leader of the Rosary and prayer chains. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Forresters and the Eden Township Supervisor for six years. He enjoyed going to auction sales and doing various repair work, but his greatest love was his family. Norbert passed away Thursday August 18, 2011 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 86 years, 4 months, and 12 days. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen of Webster, SD, one son Gary (Barb) Stromseth of Eden, SD, one daughter Melanie Stromseth of Aberdeen, SD, two grandchildren, Norberts pride and joy, Becky and Ryan Stromseth both of Eden, SD, three brothers: Albin (Phyllis) Stromseth of Watertown, SD, Quentin (Jan) Stromseth of Sun City West, AZ, Willie (Patty) Stromseth of Bemidji, MN, five sisters: Margie Opitz, Lattie Trautner, and Myrene (Leo) Gaikowski all of Webster, SD, Doris (Carl) Block of Waubay, SD, and Darlene Oberg of Ely, MN.
