BRISTOL- Oren Ausland, 85 of Bristol died on Monday, February 08, 2010 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol. His funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol, Rev. Janet Miller will officiate. Burial will be at Bristol Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Friday 4-7 P.M. and prior to services on Saturday. fiksdalfuneral.com. Memorials may be designated to the World War II Honor Flight. Oren Carlyle Ausland was born on Friday, October 3, 1924 to Oden and Clara (Stadsklev) Ausland at Bristol, South Dakota. He was baptized at Bethany Lutheran Church and confirmed at Lily Lutheran Church. He attended grade school in Valley and Troy Townships and graduated from Lily High School in 1942. In October 1944 he joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II stationed most of the time in the Philippine Islands. After his honorable discharge in November 1946 he attended S.D.S.U. in Brookings. He graduated in 1949 with an Agricultural Degree. On July 3, 1949 he was united in marriage to Violet Olson at Langford Evangelical Lutheran Church in a double wedding ceremony with Violet’s sister, Alvira and Palmer Quamen. The couple made their home and farmed in Scotland Township near Andover where they bought the Tameana Anderson farm and lived for fourteen years. Then, in 1963, they bought the homestead of his uncle, Edwin and Olga Stadsklev and lived there until entering Beverly Nursing Home in Milbank in December 2002. In May 2003 he entered the Johnson Assisted Living Center in Bristol and in December 2006 entered Sun Dial Manor. Violet passed away on February 8, 2007. He was an active member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol where he served on the Church Council and taught Sunday School. He served on the W.E.B. Board, Cenex Board and Scotland Township Board. He also was a member of the Bristol V.F.W. and American Legion. He sang with the Singing Farmers. Oren passed away on Monday, February 8, 2010 at Bristol, South Dakota at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 5 days. Survivors include one son, Eugene (Kathy) Ausland of Andover, SD; three daughters, Margaret (Ron) Gunderson of Mina Lake, SD, Diane (Wally) Hamman of Milbank, SD and Janice (Terry) O’Farrell of Watertown, SD; two sisters, Angeline (Kenny) Amundson of Webster, SD and Carol (Don) Evenson of Arlington, SD; three sisters-in-law, Yvonne Ausland of Torrence, CA, Sheila Ausland of Sioux Falls, SD and Alvira Quamen of Britton, SD; a brother-in-law, Kenneth (Mavis) Olson of Langford, SD; sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son, Jay, three brothers, Herbert, Gaius and Rev. Donald, and a brother-in-law, Palmer Quamen. Casket bearers will be grandchildren, Brian Ausland, Chad Gunderson, Misti Ausland, Lance & Steven Hamman, Nick Rasmussen, Derek Shafer and Josh Aker. Honorary casket bearers will be Heidi Shjerve, Tamara Peters, Rhonda Sonnenfeld, Candyce & Traci Ausland, Michele Hawk, Jody & Patty Hamman.
