WEBSTER- Percy Holmquist, 93 of Webster and formally of Waubay died on Friday, August 18, 2006 at Bethesda Home in Webster. Graveside services will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at Bristol Cemetery in Bristol, Janet Miller, A.I.M. of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Waubay will officiate. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Tuesday 4-8 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. Percy Clifford Holmquist was born on Saturday, June 7, 1913 to Herman and Clara (Olson) Holmquist at Holmquist, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at American Lutheran Church in Webster. He attended country school near his home and graduated from Webster High School. He worked on the family farm. On December 23, 1936 he married Winifred Johnson at Bristol, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple moved to California and after a short time returned to South Dakota to a farm near Bristol. In 1951 the couple purchased the Red and White grocery store in Bristol and operated it until 1960. They moved to Waubay where Percy purchased Abe Hawkins’ Insurance Agency. He operated the agency for many years until his retirement. He entered Bethesda Home in Webster in November 2004. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waubay. His hobbies included fishing, bowling and in retirement, traveling in their motorhome. In his younger days he played amateur baseball and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Percy passed away on Friday, August 18, 2006 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 93 years, 2 months and 11 days. Survivors include his wife, Winifred of Bethesda Home, Webster; one son, Terrence (Deborah) Holmquist of Spicer, MN; one daughter, Jacquelyn (Ron) Fritzke of Watertown, MN; and two grandsons, Travis Holmquist and Dave Morehouse. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one grandson and one great granddaughter.
