Rodney Kvernevig, 86 of Bristol died on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol. His funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol, Rev. Janet Miller will officiate. Burial will be at Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, 5-7 P.M. and prior to services on Saturday at the church. Rodney Fredrick Kvernevig was born on Wednesday, July 1, 1925 to Bernhard and Idah (Althoff) Kvernevig on the family farm near Lily, South Dakota. He was baptized at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church near Lily and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Webster. He attended country school near his home, eventually transferring to Webster Elementary School and attending Webster High School. After he received his education he helped his parents on the family farm. On February 19, 1950 he was united in marriage to Arlene Brenden at Crandall, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home and farmed near Lily. In 1955 they moved to Lead, South Dakota where he worked at Homestake Mine. They returned to the farm near Lily in 1959 and he went to work for Milwaukee Railroad. They moved to Bristol in 1962 and he retired from the railroad in 1987. Arlene passed away in 1994 and he entered Sun Dial Manor in Bristol in September 2005. He was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church. He was a Bristol City Council member for several years and was the Sexton of St. Ansgar Cemetery west of Lily for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, reading and spending time with his grandchildren. Rodney passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Bristol, South Dakota at the age of 86 years, 5 months and 12 days. Survivors include two sons, Gary (Dlon) Kvernevig and Bruce (Rhonda) Kvernevig both of Aberdeen, SD; four daughters, Stephanie (Franklin) Huwe of Butler, SD, Lola (Gordon) Conley of East Grand Forks, MN, Karla (Gary) Beisch of Sioux Falls, SD and Kris (Nick) Hubsch of Bristol, SD; one brother, Burton Kvernevig and friend, Nita Eckstrom of Lakeland, MN; one sister, Clara Kolkman of North Platte, NE; 18 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, Brian, a granddaughter, Crystal Conley, and one brother, Palmer.
