Therlo Henrichsen

Bristol- Therlo Henrichsen, 82 of Bristol died on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol. His funeral will be at 1:30 P.M. Monday, November 19, 2007 at Butler Lutheran Church in Butler, Rev. Keith Hansen officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Lily. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Sunday 5-7 P.M. and prior to services at the church. Therlo William Henrichsen was born on Saturday, January 10, 1925 to William and Rose (Herr) Henrichsen at the home of his grandparents Herr’s home west of Butler, South Dakota. He was baptized by the E.U.B. pastor and later confirmed as an adult at Lily Lutheran Church. The family lived in the Lily-Butler area where he grew up and attended country school. He attended Butler High School for two years and then graduated from Lily High School as Valedictorian of the class of 1942. After high school he worked for Archie Fossum for a time. Then in 1946 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan. While in Japan he climbed Mt. Fuji. He was honorably discharged in 1948 receiving the WW II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. Therlo then attended S.D.S.U. School of Agriculture in Brookings and then returned and farmed west of Lily where he raised Hereford Cattle. He would walk a mile or two to feed his cattle in a snowstorm, if necessary, and then back home to his farmhouse. He loved animals, especially cattle and cats. He also farmed with his brother, Arlo. On July 8, 1972 he married Alice Corbin at Lily Lutheran Church. They made their home and continued to live and farm near Lily. After a fire ruined their home they moved to the farm where his brother, Arlo had lived. Alice passed away in May 1995. Therlo was a cancer survivor and farmed until the Fall of 2003 when he moved into Bristol. He moved to the Johnson Center in Bristol in April 2004 and then entered Sun Dial Manor in September 2006. Therlo was a member of Butler Lutheran Church and was Treasurer of the Lily-Butler Lutheran Parish for a time. He was a member of Farmer’s Union, V.F.W., American Legion and Lily Historical Society. He played for the Lily and Crocker baseball teams, enjoyed square dancing and History. He took several trips to various states and was a participant in the Farmers Union Fly-in to Washington, D.C. in 1998 during the Day County flooding periord. He was a thoughtful, kind, considerate man. Having no children of his own, he played with nieces and nephews at “grandmas” house. As “big” brother, he was a father figure to his younger siblings. Therlo passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at Bristol, South Dakota at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 5 days. Survivors include two step-sons, Steven (Eunice) LaFontaine of California and Bradley (Cheryl) Stevens of Idaho; two brothers, John (Cathy) Henrichsen of Lisbon, ND and Bill (Bonnie) Henrichsen of Castlewood, SD; three sisters, Delores (Maynard) Whitmyre of Webster, SD, Doris (Bud) LaBrie of Doland, SD and Joan (Dallas) Solberg of Aberdeen, SD; a sister-in-law, Evie Henrichsen of Willmar, MN; and several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother, Arlo and an infant sister, Jane.
