Wallace Moore, 94 of Bristol died on Wednesday, April 06, 2011 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol. His funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday, April 11, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Bristol, Rev. John Hisel officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Bristol Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Sunday 5-8 P.M. with a 7 P.M. Masonic Service. Fiksdalfuneral.com.Wallace Sparks Moore was born on October 10, 1916 in Bosqueville, Texas to Robert and Etta Lee (Shaw-Sparks) Moore. He attended elementary school in Waco and completed high school in Corcicana, Texas. On completion of high school, he worked in Waco for the Cameron Company, a company that built doors and windows. He was transferred by this company from Waco to Beaumont where he was promoted to a warehouse foreman. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1942. After completing officers candidates school at Camp Lee, Virginia, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant into the Quartermaster Service attached to the 8th Air Force. Then he was assigned to Barksdalefield in Shrevesport, Louisiana until he was deployed with the 385th bomb group attached with the 8th Air Force during WW II to StoMarket, England located 90 miles north of London. At the close of the war, he was put in charge of closing the USAF base in Sioux Falls, SD. After his discharge in 1946, he owned and operated a caf in Canton, SD where he met Evangeline Hansmeier. They were married on July 15, 1948 in Bristol and moved from Canton to Bristol where he managed the farming and cattle operations for Hansmeier Son until his retirement in 1984. They enjoyed vacationing to a number of areas including South Africa, the Carribeans, Alaska, Mexico and Hawaii. Evangeline passed away in 1988. On December 31, 1989 in Fargo, North Dakota, he married Marjorie Mick. They resided in their home in Bristol and wintered in Corpus Christie (Padre Islands), Texas until Marj entered Sun Dial Manor in 2006. Wally continued living in his home until the fall of 2009 when he entered the assisted living center, the Johnson Center, at Sun Dial Manor. Marj passed away in July 2010. Wally was a member of the American Legion and the VFW in Bristol. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Aberdeen. He served on the Bristol city council for 2 terms (1951-1958), and was elected mayor while serving on the council. While Mayor, he was in charge of the Golden Jubilee Celebration in 1957. He was active for years in the Lake Region Masonic Lodge. He was a 60+ year member of the Yelduz Shrine Club in Aberdeen. As a Shriner, he was a member of the Roadrunners Club, making numerous trips with children to the Shriners Crippled Childrens Hospital in St. Paul MN. He was also a member of the Yelduz Shrine Lake Region Parade Unit and a member of the Shriners Jesters. He was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Bristol. Over the years he enjoyed hunting, golfing, playing bridge, conversing with friends over a good cup of coffee, and grilling and flipping pancakes for community dinners. He loved telling stories about the past, enjoyed playing tricks on people, and was considered to be lucky, winning raffles and prizes throughout the years. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include one brother, Bill (Beth) Carruth of Corpus Christie, Texas; sister in law, Modene Carruth of Mexia, Texas, wife of the late Jack Carruth; one step granddaughter, Jane Persen of Racine, Wisconsin; three nephews, Dennis Carruth of Woodlands, Texas; Floyd (Jill) Hansmeier, and Keith (Theresa) Hansmeier, both of Bristol; four nieces, Vickie (Clay) Haeger and Debbie (Mark) Goodman of Corpus Christie, Texas; Betty Jo (Bill) Farr of Grapevine, Texas; and Louise (Ralph) Oakland of Bristol; three great nephews and fourteen great nieces; and his special friends, Chuck and Virginia Chilson. He was preceded in death by three brothers, both wives and a step daughter.
