Alice Duerre, 100, of Bristol passed away Friday July 2, 2021 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol.
A memorial service will be held 10AM Thursday July 8, 2021 at United Methodist Church in Bristol. Due to limited seating, we will be live-streaming on our website.

Alice S. Duerre was born December 5, 1920, in Butler, SD. She celebrated becoming a centurion in December of 2020. Until her death, on July 2, 2021, she lived an active, independent life. She was the daughter of Sultana (Gustandeau) and George Pappas. Alice was baptized in the Greek Orthodox Church in Minneapolis.
Alice attended school in Butler, SD, graduating in 1938. She attended Northern State Teacher’s College receiving a two-year teaching certificate. Her first teaching job was at Sunshine Country School, where she met the love of her life, Bob. In 1974, she received her BS in Education from Northern State College. She taught in Butler, Ortley, Bristol, Mobridge and then returned to Bristol for 26 more years. She had the pleasure of teaching all four of her kids.
On June 29, 1946, Alice and Dewey (Bob) Duerre Jr. were united in marriage at her parent’s home in Butler. Four children James, Robert, Richard and Merry were born to this union.
After 32 years of teaching, she retired in 1983, the year Merry graduated from high school. Alice and Bob retired from the farm and moved to Bristol in 1991. They loved to travel and spent many winters in Las Vegas.
Alice was a member of the Bristol United Methodist Church, Octavo Study Club, PTA, VFW Auxiliary and South Dakota Education Association.
Alice is survived by her children, James (Barbara) Duerre, Kennesaw, GA, Robert (Beth) Duerre, Webster, SD, Merry (Garry) Lone, Bristol, SD: seven grandchildren, Thad (Vicki) Duerre, Clint (Allegra) Duerre, Heather (Madison) Humann, Bobby (Gina) Duerre, Angela (Patrick) Desotell, Olivia Lone (Dan) and McClain Lone; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, a sister, Shirley Cronin and two sisters-in-law Jackie Duerre and Marcella Duerre. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bob, her son, Richard, her daughter-in-law Carol, and brothers James and Gust Pappas.
