Almina Helgeson, 97, of Roslyn passed away Thursday March 12, 2020 at Strand Kjorsvig Living Center in Roslyn. Public visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Friday March 27, 2020 at the funeral home. A memorial service will held at a later date. Condolences may be sent to Richard Helgeson 906 17th Ave NE Watertown, SD 57201 Almina Engvalda Monson was born on May 11, 1922 to Engebret and Marie (Haugen) Monson at the family farm near Roslyn, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at Fron Lutheran Church. She attended country school near the family home through the eighth grade. In 1941, she was united in marriage to Oliver Helgeson at the Fron Lutheran Church parsonage. The couple made their home on a farm north west of Roslyn where they farmed for many years. Almina was a homemaker and together she and Oliver raised three boys; Orville, Richard, and Larry. After the loss of her husband and son Larry, Almina moved off the farm in 1979. She made her home in Roslyn and worked at Strand Kjorsvig Living Center until 1984. She lived in Roslyn until relocating to Langford for several years where she had many close friends and neighbors. In 2016, she returned to Roslyn and made her home at SK Living Center. Almina was a life-long member of Fron Lutheran church where she was active in Ladies Aid, Circle, and Bible Studies. She was also a member of Birthday Club. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, embroidering, and quilting. She especially loved time spent with family and friends. She cherished her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Almina passed away Thursday March 12, 2020 at Roslyn, South Dakota at the age of 97 years, 10 months, and 1 day. She will be greatly missed by her two sons, Orville (Sharon) Helgeson of Langford, SD, and Richard (Imogene) Helgeson of Watertown, SD; eight grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Larry, seven brothers, and four sisters.
