Alyce K. Nelson, 79 of Waubay died on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Sanford Hospital in Webster. Private family services will be held on Monday. Public visitation will be on Sunday 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home. Her wishes were – instead of sending flowers to her that they be sent to a loved one or family member of yours in Alyce’s memory. Alyce Kristine Highstreet was born on August 3, 1936 to Herman and Marie (Schuknecht) Highstreet on a farm near Chancellor, South Dakota. Alyce grew up in the Hurley, South Dakota area. She attended and later graduated from Hurley High School. Alyce was united in marriage to Dennis Nelson at Hurley, South Dakota where she was a member of First United Methodist Church. After their marriage the couple made their home in several towns throughout South Dakota where Dennis was teaching. While living in those towns Alyce was employed at many different jobs including a nurse’s aide, a doctor’s secretary and a manager of a Goodwill store. After the couple moved to Waubay in 1982 Alyce was employed as a secretary at the Waubay school where she eventually retired. Alyce loved flowers and music. Also lighthouses and loons. She was an avid sports fan and recently enjoyed ice fishing. The highlight of her life was her family and friends. There was a special place in her heart for her animals. Mourning her passing are her husband, Dennis of Milbank; two sons, Chad (Patricia) Nelson of Edgartown, Martha’s Vineyard, MA and Coy Nelson of Waubay, SD; one daughter, Cyd (John) Lynch of Watertown, SD; four grandchildren, Katherine Ann (Wayne) Franklin, Elizabeth Marie (Anthony) Sisti, Jayme Alyceson Lynch ( & friend, Eric Gregersen) and John Dennis (J.D.) Lynch; five great grandchildren; and one sister, Jane (Robert) Walser of Yankon, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
