Arlyus Vanatta

Arlyus Vanatta, 90, of Colorado and formerly of Webster, passed away, Thursday, September 3, 2026, in Colorado. 

Services will be held 3pm, Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster. 

On September 17, 1935, on a beautiful fall day, Arlyus Jane Huwe, the second child of Gustave and Marie (Marsh) Huwe, was born in Butler, South Dakota. Arlyus was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith.

She attended school in Lily, South Dakota, graduating in 1953.

Following graduation, she moved with her parents to Renton, Washington, where she attended dental assistant school and worked as an assistant to Barney Clark.

She moved to Pacific, WA. Where she resided until she meet and married her husband of 55 years, Roger Lee Vannata, on August 30, 1958. They resided in Sumner WA until they moved to Berthoud Co in 1970. The couple lived there for 32 years. Arlyus had several jobs in the 32 years. She worked for A&M Poultry, Group Publishing, Mom and Grandma.

When the couple decided to retire, they moved back the South Dakota and lived in Milbank. After Roger passed away in 2013.

Arlyus moved to Webster SD where she resided at the time of her passing. She was a member of the Butler Lutheran Church.

Arlyus was an excellent baker and loved to be gardening and was still mowing her own lawn at 87 years of age.

After retiring, traveling with Roger gave her many memories.

Arlyus is survived by son Vance Vanatta and daughter Cary (Joe) Ford, grandsons Stephen (Shelby) Vanatta, Jeremy Downey, Zackary Downey and 7 grandchildren Alyisha, Karsyn, Kameron, Kaycen, Kaylor, Charlee Mae, Blakely.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roger, parents Gus and Marie Huwe and siblings Gene, Gayle and
