Barbara Snaza

July 19, 1927 — November 16, 2023

Barbara Snaza, 96, of Bristol and formerly of Los Angeles, passed away peacefully Thursday November 16, 2023, at Sun Dial Manor Bristol.

Mass Of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, DECEMBER 2, 2023 at Christ The King Catholic Church in Webster. Interment will be at St. Otto's Catholic Cemetery near Webster.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, DECEMBER 1, 2023, closing with a 7 p.m. rosary service at Christ The King Catholic Church.

Barbara Ann Gebur, "Barb" was born on July 19, 1927, to Joseph and Lena (Gollnick) Gebur in Butler, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Otto's Catholic Church in Webster, SD. She attended Fairview District 116 Country school near Butler before attending Butler Highschool where she graduated in 1945.

 

After her education she went to work at Wist Produce, and then Nerger's Department Store in Webster. She moved to Chicago in September 1948 where she got a job at Advanced Transformers.

 

She was united in marriage to James Snaza on June 30, 1949, at St. Otto's Catholic Church in Webster. The couple made their home in Chicago from 1949-1951. In 1951 James was called back to the Navy and the family moved to Los Angeles CA. There, they raised 4 children. Barb worked on the election board for over thirty years, did babysitting and had a part time Job at Twiggs Gift Store in Santa Monica CA. Here she was excited to say she met Pricilla Presley.  She was also proud of the fact that she got to serve on a federal grand jury for a year. In 2018 Barbara made the decision to move to Sundial Manor in Bristol SD.

 

Barb was a member of St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church, in Los Angeles, for over 66 years, she volunteered at several church events, was a member of the parish council throughout the years and was a member of the Webster VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed embroidering, sewing, gardening, dancing, music, entertaining, doing crossword puzzles and taking road trips. After Jim’s retirement, they traveled to many states by van, often visiting friends and relatives along the way.

 

She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She always said she lived a good life, and was grateful for the things she was able to experience.

 

She will be missed by her two sons, David (Terry) Snaza of Reno, NV, and Bob (Lori)Snaza of Webster, SD; one daughter, Janet (Don) Myers of Webster SD, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and her sister-in-law Alice Gebur.

          

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim, her siblings, Anton, Agnes, Rose, Paul, Barney, David and Leo, one granddaughter, her daughter Diane and her lifelong friend Alice (Anderson) Lynch.
