WEBSTER- Bennie McCarlson, 82 of Webster died on Wednesday, September 06, 2006 at Bethesda Home in Webster. His funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, September 9, 2006 at Tabor Lutheran Church near Webster, Rev. Derek Kalkes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Friday 4-7 P.M. and prior to services on Saturday at the church. Bennie Alfred McCarlson Jr. was born May 5, 1924 at the Dalager homestead northwest of Webster, SD to Bennie McCarlson Sr. and Clara (Johnson) McCarlson. He was baptized and confirmed at Tabor Lutheran Church and graduated from Greenbank rural school. In the 1940's the family moved to a farm in Webster township. Bennie farmed there with his father until he retired and Bennie bought the farm. On May 8, 1971 Bennie married Sandra Kay Bubs at United Methodist Church in Webster. In 1978 they sold the family farm and Bennie went to work on the historic Buffalo Creek Ranch near Arminto ,WY. In 1980 they moved to the Fenton Ranch near Waltman, WY. In 1981 they moved to the Beck Ranch north of Natrona, WY. Bennie was an active member of House of our Shepherd Church in Powder River, and was a 4-H leader. He entered his Border Collie dogs in stock dog trials and in 1996 was honored by the Natrona County Woolgrowers Association for his long-time dedication to the sheep industry. Bennie enjoyed hunting, fishing, rodeos and training horses. In earlier years he raised and showed Quarter Horses. He loved ranching and spent most of his days in the saddle. In April 1996 he was critically injured while working on his pick-up. After a lengthy hospital stay he became a resident of Life Care Center of Casper. In 1997 Bennie and Sandy returned to Webster where he entered Bethesda Home. Survivors include his wife Sandy, daughter Jeanette (Jed) Chelmo, Chippewa Falls WI, son Ben W. McCarlson, Casper, Wy, grandaughter Taya Chelmo, Chippewa Falls WI, sister Lois Hagen, Brooklyn Park, MN, one nephew Reed Hagen, three nieces, Pam Baier, Jennifer Chirpich, Lori (Jesse) Monnens, numerous other relatives and a multitude of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
