David Gollnick, 89, of Webster, SD, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at his home in Webster.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Webster, SD. Father Doug Binsfeld will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Otto's Catholic Cemetery near Webster.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster, SD and will close with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m.

David Marvin Gollnick was born to Theophile Joseph (T.J.) and Margaret Agnes (Sass) Gollnick on June 12, 1934, on the family homestead in Highland Township south of Webster. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lily, SD. And attended District 188 Highland Township School. David worked for George Schmidt’s Dairy Farm before being drafted into the US Army in 1956. David completed Basic Training at Ft. Chaffee, Arkansas and then onward to Ft. Benning, Georgia. David was a Government Driver and a Light Weapons Instructor for Officer Candidate School. After receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1958 David returned to the family farm before beginning his career in road construction. David worked for Knight Construction, Stomseth Construction and several other construction companies in Arizona, Wyoming, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Montana as a heavy equipment operator. When his brother became ill in 1988, David retired from construction and returned to the family farm to help with the farm and care for Ambrose. He continued to live on the farm and enjoyed working the land and watching crops grow.

David was a favorite uncle to all his nieces and nephews. If you ask them, they will tell you many stories, especially about their hunting trips, and fishing adventures (both fresh water and especially ice fishing.) in later years, he traveled throughout 46 of the United States and even met his old army buddy in Alaska. David will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. David was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and was a lifetime member of the Catholic Foresters.

David passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at the age of 89 years and 20 days.

He is survived by one sister-in-law, Jeanette Gollnick of Aberdeen, SD; two brothers-in-law, Daryl Steiner of Eden, SD and Darrell Bowling of Isanti, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Raymond, Ambrose, Norbert and Herman; four sisters, Geraldine Steiner, Treva Bowling, Olive Block and Georgia Janisch.
