David Marvin Jorgenson was born on September 20, 1944, to Marvin and Ruth (Peebles) Jorgenson in Watertown, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at the Congregational Church in Waubay and attended school there, graduating with the Class of 1962. Following high school, David continued farming alongside his father on the family farm south of Waubay.
On August 24, 1963, he married Laura “Lou” Meuer at St. Otto’s Catholic Church in Webster, South Dakota. Dave and Lou were happily married for 62 years. Together, they made their home in Waubay, where they raised their three children: Bradley, Gregg, and Kristin. In 1985, the family moved to the farm, where David continued dairy farming and crop production.
In addition to their farming operation, Dave and Lou owned and operated the Lakeview Drive-In, where Dave proudly earned a reputation as the “Hamburger Master.” Together, they also operated a successful catering business from the drive-in. In 2001, Dave retired from full-time farming but remained active in the agricultural community, lending a helping hand to local farmers whenever needed. He and Lou built a home west of Waubay, and in 2016 they moved to Blue Dog Lake.
Dave enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life, including hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, golfing, and gardening where his homemade spaghetti sauce was always a hit with the grandkids! He especially enjoyed sharing coffee and conversation with the coffee crew up on "the hill". A devoted traveler, Dave loved taking family road trips and exploring new places with Lou. Together, they traveled extensively, visiting Germany, Switzerland, Scotland, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Alaska, Hawaii, England, and the Panama Canal. One of his favorite adventures was fishing in Alaska. At 4 o'clock, friends and neighbors always knew where to find Dave.
Above all else, Dave treasured time with his family and his faithful companion, Gert.
Dave will be forever loved and deeply missed by his wife, Lou, of Waubay; his children, Bradley (Karla) Jorgenson of Brandon, SD, Gregg (Monica) Jorgenson of Brookings, SD, and Kristin (Chris) Bisgard of Brookings, SD; and his six grandchildren, Korissa Jorgenson, Ryleigh Jorgenson, Reagan (Seth) Burchill, Ella Bisgard, Charlie Bisgard, and Claire Bisgard. He was also eagerly anticipating the arrival of his first great-grandchild.
He is further survived by his sisters, Sheryl Steinocker of Summit, SD, and Cindi Vincent of Andover, MN.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Lester and Leona (Becht) Meuer and his brother, Brent Jorgenson.
