David R. Wasilk

David R. Wasilk, 70, of rural Waubay, passed away Monday, April 27, 2026, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

Memorial services celebrating David's life, will be held 1pm Friday, May 8, 2026, at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster.

Dave was born October 5, 1955, to Edward and Irene Wasilk. He grew up on the farm by Pickerel Lake, attended St. Joseph Catholic School through 8th grade, and graduated from Roslyn High School in 1973. He developed a love for cars, building his first car, a 1962 Chevrolet Impala. He attended Harley-Davidson Service School in Milwaukee in 1976 and worked for Midwest Motor Sports in Fairmont, MN. He later opened Dave’s Cycle Repair in Fairmont, where he specialized in building and repairing Harley-Davidson motorcycles and custom trailers. Dave continued to be a mechanic in South Dakota, servicing boats, autos, and tractors, as he farmed in Grenville, SD. After many years of dairy farming, Dave focused on haying and grain crops.

Family was central to Dave’s life. He had three girls with his former wife, Char Wasilk, and enjoyed his grandchildren immensely. Dave enjoyed talking with friends, driving his 1985 C10 pickup, and fishing in his free time. Dave was always willing to help someone out and loved sharing stories and laughter.

Dave is survived by his children, Bobbi Westra, Emily (Thor) Garness, and Laura (Tim Braun) Wasilk; grandchildren Brandon Berghorst, Zoey Berghorst, Ethan Berghorst, Sophia Westra, Samantha Garness, Allie Garness, Thorson Garness, Trenton Braun, Trey Braun, and Tristyn Braun; siblings Wayne Wasilk and Ted Wasilk; and his cat, Tootie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Irene Wasilk; his siblings, Lenny May and Danny May; and his partner, Natalie Rekdahl.
