WAUBAY- Dennis Braley, 86 of Waubay died on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Milbank Area Hospital in Milbank. His funeral will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel in Webster, burial with military rites will be at Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service (fiksdalfuneral.com) on Friday, 5-8 P.M. and one hour prior to services on Saturday. Dennis Alton Braley was born on Monday, June 26, 1922 to Emil and Emma (Carlson) Braley at Webster, South Dakota. The family moved to Brookings where he attended school and graduated from high school. In September 1942 he entered the U.S. Navy and served during World War II in the Pacific, where he witnessed the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima. On November 23, 1946 he married Ruth Wieger at Watertown, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home in the Milbank area where he worked in the autobody and paint repair business, making it his career. He worked at many towns in eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota and also in Denver, Colorado. In 1987 the couple moved to Waubay where he worked for Sinner Auto until his retirement in the late 1990’s. Dennis enjoyed fishing, playing cards, watching westerns on TV, listening to country music and visiting with family and friends. He was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion. Dennis passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Milbank, South Dakota at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 23 days. Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Waubay; one son Douglas Braley of Waubay, SD; three daughters, Denise (Ken) Kjos of Mohave Valley, AZ, Debra (Larry) Evans of Lynd, MN and Donette (Gary) Halverson of Lakewood, CO; one sister, Ruth Liebing of Brookings, SD; a brother-in-law, John Buittner of Watertown, SD; a sister-in-law, Vera Braley of Sioux Falls, SD; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Milford, Virgil and twin brother, Duane, two sisters, Lovaine and Arlene and a granddaughter, Jessica.
