He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waubay. He attended school in Waubay and graduated in 1968. Dennis continued his education at South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota until December of 1970 when he enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany where he worked on Nike-Hercules missiles. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Waubay to work alongside his father in the grain salvage business. On April 25, 1975 he was united in marriage to Carol Mikkelson at Waubay. The couple made their home in the same house for the next 41 years. To this union a son (Collin -1977) and a daughter (Casey-1980) were born. The couple purchased the business from LaVerne in 1981. Once Dennis took over, he built custom equipment that was and is currently vital in making the business what it is today. Collin joined the operation in 1998 making it a three generation family business. Carol retired in 2006 and Dennis semi-retired, allowing the couple to travel extensively. Dennis was a lifelong member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and the Waubay American Legion. He was a kind-hearted man who knew no limits. Dennis was a problem solver, whether building custom equipment or working grain elevator fires, he knew how to succeed. He was extremely generous and willing to help anyone in need. Waubay was very important to him and he was a strong advocate to help Waubay thrive. Dennis was a hardworking and intelligent businessman, but above all else, he was an honorable and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family dearly and cherished any time he could spend with them. He will be greatly missed by his wife Carol of Waubay, SD ; one son Collin (Danae) Gregerson of Waubay, SD ; one daughter Casey (Dan) Halvorson of Peoria, IL ; six grandchildren Wyatt, Cole, Chase, Cooper, Claire, and Coen. He is also survived by his brother Loris Gregerson of Waubay, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents.
