Dennis Sapp, 66, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Prince of Peace Nursing Home in Sioux Falls.

A celebration of Dennis' life will be held 5-7pm closing with a 7pm prayer service, Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Fiksdal Funeral Service

Dennis Bryan Sapp was born on May 25, 1960, in Webster, South Dakota, to Larry and Audrey (Kotzea) Rish. Following his parents' divorce, Dennis moved with his mother to Washington, D.C., where she was employed at the U.S. Pentagon. He attended school in the Washington, D.C., area but looked forward to spending his summers in Waubay with his grandmother.

After completing his education, Dennis began a career in construction, helping build large commercial buildings and skyscrapers throughout the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. Through his strong work ethic and leadership, he quickly advanced to the position of foreman. While in the Chesapeake Bay area, he also was a crab fisherman. In 1991, Dennis returned to Waubay, where he and Kathy Birney made their home and raised their son, Bryan.

Dennis continued working in construction, specializing in concrete work for new building projects. A true jack of all trades, he was also skilled in carpentry, welding, car mechanic, HVAC/plumbing, and spent several years driving semi-truck. In September 2024, Dennis experienced multiple health complications that required him to move to a care facility in Sioux Falls, where he remained until his passing.

Dennis had a passion for riding his Harley-Davidson, hunting, target shooting, collecting firearms, and caring for reptiles. He also loved cookouts with family and friends. Above all, he treasured the time he spent with his son, Bryan.

Grateful for having shared his life are his sons, Bryan Birney and David Sapp; his brother, John Sapp; and many friends and extended family members.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; his longtime partner, Kathy Birney; and his brother, Michael Sapp.
