Dick Dargatz, 81, of Waubay, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Prairie Lakes Hospital, Watertown.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, November 16, 2023 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grenville. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Wednesday, November 15, 2023, closing with a rosary service at 6:30 P.M. at Fiksdal Funeral Service.

Dick Dargatz was born on May 18, 1942, at home on the Dargatz family homestead to Joseph and Genevieve “Regina” (Michalowski) Dargatz. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grenville. He attended country school near the family farm. After his education he farmed with his family. They raised mink and were also engaged in grain and dairy farming.

On September 14, 1963, he was united in marriage to Sylvia Weyh at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Waubay. They made their home on the Dargatz farm where they continued to farm while raising their four children, Becky, Mike, Greg, and Josh.

Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing, and watching football. He loved horses and listening to Elvis. Dick was the family jokester and loved making people laugh. Above all else, he loved his family. Dick had a heart of gold and will be greatly missed.

Dick passed away Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Watertown, South Dakota at the age of 81 years, 5 months, and 26 days.

He will be forever loved by his wife Sylvia of Waubay, SD, children, Becky (Mark) Pearson of Waubay, SD, Mike Dargatz of Webster, SD, Greg (Cindy) Dargatz of Watertown, SD, and Josh (Christine) Dargatz of Waubay, SD. He will also be missed by nine grandchildren, James (Danielle) Pearson, Dylan Morgan, Montanna (Cammi) Dargatz, Tucker (Rachel) Dargatz, Kaden Dargatz, Serenity Dargatz, Lili Dargatz, Cullen Dargatz, Jacob Dargatz, and one great-granddaughter, Chesney Pearson, as well as two brothers and six sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
